tarringovaughan

Tarringo T. Vaughan always believed he had a love affair with literature. One of the first pictures he saw of himself was of him at maybe the age of three or four year’s old sitting with a book in his hand. But for Tarringo, growing up in the depths of the inner city both in Boston, MA and Springfield, MA made him believe that expression through the literary voice was un-cool and unattainable. As a very quiet and shy child he learned it became very valuable in his self expression. Born in 1976, Tarringo was the first child, grandchild and nephew in a family that had grown accustomed to struggle. His mother was a teenager who quickly lost the support of my father who today he knows very little of. These aspects of his life triggered the inspiration of his pen. Later in life his struggle with self confidence and homosexuality catapulted his desire to write. He felt a need to educate and help others in his situation through words. It became Tarringo’s ambition to be somebody and in 1995 he entered his freshmen year at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he was still a very quiet individual and still refused to make a career involving literature. But his English courses continued to intrigue him the most and through those courses he became familiar and connected with African American writers such as James Baldwin and Langston Hughes who taught him that it was cool to be whom he was. James Baldwin was also gay and proudly exhibited his sense of self and Langston Hughes was a genius in poetry whose suave lyrical delivery drew Tarringo into his expression. And as his education furthered he found himself opening up more and taking on the role of a leader socially. Tarringo T. Vaughan graduated in 2000 from the University Of Massachusetts - Amherst with a Bachelors degree in English and Communications as a 2nd major. Tarringo currently works in the healthcare field but is working on his 2nd poetry book for publication titled “A Crack In The Sidewalk” following his first book of poetry titiled "Beyond Rainbows & Yellow Brick Roads" and is the founder of the Flexwriters Creative Network (http://www.flexwriterscreativenetwork.net) which currently features an online magazine, a social site and many literary outlets for poets, writers, publishers and readers. Future plans include a publishing company as well as actual an actual café for writers and spoken word nights. His writing consists of many styles as he does like neglecting rules and going beyond the norm.

Time

I wouldn’t say I am one for sitting on bar stools in empty dirty bars studying time, but here I am/ all alone/ staring out a stainless glass window watching life happen and wondering about the sublime.   So many heartbeats out there strive for greatness; so many dreams colliding while searching for possibilities hidden […]

Sometimes The Rain

There are times I walk through pouring rain with no umbrella to shield me from all that grieves the pain. The world watches me as I tremble through muddied cemented fields where sadness remains and scurry past landmarks studied through a mind of loneliness as I remember tears I never allowed to sweat as my […]

When, we are out there alone, on our own – exploring a whole new world far from home a new day arises when the education of life opens our eyes to new ways of thought and energizes new visions of ideology which uplifts the mind’s biology with new ways of  finding truth.   But […]

Roots

Written for Sheila Vann on her 50th Birthday   Rich in your soul is the history of strength, soiled foundations that have seeded growth, distilled tears and refused pain.   In your eyes is the genetics of sacrifice, the agriculture of hope that has risen from the depths of poverty’s rain –   and in […]

a child's eyes

When looking into a child’s eyes there are many paths, there are dreams and failure, hope and tears, determination and fears, but deep in a child’s eye, deep down within the spirals of motivation they are reaching out for a hero – they are reaching out for leadership and for someone to recognize their […]

This is my declaration; a literary celebration of the shackles lifted from my pen freeing the expression of my ink into an explosive fireworks of creation. Because for so long I hesitated to share my voice, afraid to be heard but now my mind sings and rejoice the plight of all I hid inside; now […]

Shadow-of-a-Doubt

There can be no progression in this world if you keep allowing yourself to fall. It was one of those days that the reflection in the mirror wasn’t someone I wanted to see. Everywhere I went I saw someone who kept holding me back; someone who tripped me over and over onto the grounds of […]

tower of strength

No longer am i   hidden behind unmovable walls unseen, unheard, unwanted   I busted through the plaster and freed myself from my own silent disaster   and now I stand exposed   no longer am i   held back by the chains of distain undefined, unappreciated, unknown   I shattered the links of […]

October’s Fest

I taste a Pumpkin spiced Ale in the brisk afternoon winds of October’s kiss.  I feel the celebration of early harvest all around me as a festival of leaves scatter through the barren parking lots and over worn down curbs blanketing the architecture of footprints   with the fabric of golden orange, bright yellow and […]
