Inspired by Lucille Clifton’s poem “sisters”
you and I are brothers.
we cry the same.
you and I
see eye to eye
coming from the same place.
you and I
like rhyming our tears
and drying up our fears.
you and I
try standing up to pain
and puddle around in rain
you and I
was comparing our scars one time
and we both smiled because the shades of skin
are different between
you and I.
you and I
walk proud
we stand loud
we bleed strong
we think long.
You and I
live to write
we inspire to fight
sometimes don’t act right
but we breathe the same
we heal the same
we are brothers,
only where you find truth
I seek proof
