There have been those who told me where I’ve been
and where I have yet to go but I had to look down within
the bosom of soul and let them know that I define my own destination
as only my feet have had to walk
the paths of self education
searching and finding the knowledge mixed inside my mind.
I was the seeker of my own truths
in understand the many realities
that determined my inner priorities
to be the definition and the creation
of one who stands strong and refuses to fall.
There have been those who told me what see
and who I had to be but I was able to reach inside and capture me
because I define my own vision as only these eyes have seen failure
in the reflection of my history; history that recognizes my soul
and has allowed me to strive and find revelations
in the hidden mystery of why my own skin
because I have been seen as a threat
but I have been reminded by ancestors who’ve had to struggle
fight, and sweat
to look focus with my own two eyes
and seek progress.
And there have been those who told me how to feel;
how to think, hurt and heal but only I define my own heart
as only these tears have washed away
the many battles of pain that led to the strength to lead;
the many struggles of denial that led me to rise and succeed.
My blood pumps through veins that cry
and will never be silenced because I define strength
as in this blood bleeds heroism, passion and the true
definition of me.
